Housing Rehab in Gaston County: How It’s Making a Difference for Everyone
In a monumental achievement, Gaston County’s Housing Rehabilitation Department was recently honored with the prestigious Housing North Carolina Awards for homeowner rehabilitation. Hosted by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, this recognition marked the first time in the award’s 34-year history that a homeowner rehabilitation award was presented.
Since being awarded its initial grant five years ago in 2016, the Housing Rehab Department (HRD) has made a significant impact within Gaston County. The department has successfully completed repairs on 109 homes, channeling a whopping $2.1 million into these transformative efforts. This remarkable investment has not only beautified neighborhoods and improved living conditions but also injected vitality into the local economy.
Marc Bolick, who serves as the Housing Rehab Manager for Gaston County, emphasized the multifaceted benefits of these efforts. According to Bolick, the department’s activities are not merely cosmetic fixes or isolated acts of charity. Instead, they serve as strategic investments that benefit the community at large. These rehab projects not only uplift homeowners but also translate into substantial cost savings for taxpayers. Bolick estimates that the rehabilitation projects save taxpayers thousands of dollars each year by preventing more costly emergency interventions down the line.
Though the Housing Rehab Department was officially founded just two years ago, it has already made its mark both locally and statewide. The award and the results speak to the department’s commitment to fostering a stronger, healthier community. Given its track record, the Gaston County Housing Rehabilitation Department is well poised to continue making transformative contributions to the region for years to come.
