Texas Initiative Aids in Rebuilding Homes for Low-Income Owners
In Texarkana, Texas, the city has been awarded a significant grant aimed at aiding the construction of new homes for low-income homeowners. The primary goal of the HOME Investment Partnership Program is to enhance the availability of decent, safe, and affordable housing for low-income families. The program achieves this by providing funds to demolish substandard housing and construct new homes on the same site.
Eligibility Criteria for the Program:
- Homeowners must live in a substandard home.
- Residency within the city limits of Texarkana, Texas, is required.
- Applicants must own their home.
- Property taxes must be current.
- A clear title to the property is necessary.
- Household income should be below 80% of Bowie County’s median income.
Participation in the program is at no cost to the homeowner. The assistance comes in the form of a conditional grant for five years or as a deferred forgivable loan over 15 years. If a homeowner decides to sell their property within this period, they are required to repay a portion of the home’s cost. After the specified time, the grant or loan is completely forgiven.
