Alaska Storm Disaster Assistance Expanded to More Areas

More Alaska homeowners can now get federal disaster help after the October 2025 West Coast storms. FEMA just added new areas to the disaster declaration.

New Areas Added for Help

These areas can now apply for Individual Assistance:

  • Kashunamiut Regional Educational Attendance Area
  • Yupiit Regional Educational Attendance Area
  • City of Saint Mary's

Homeowners and renters in these areas can get money for disaster damage.

What Kind of Help Is Available?

FEMA can help pay for:

  • Temporary lodging
  • Home repairs
  • Personal property replacement
  • Other disaster costs

How To Apply for FEMA Help

You have four ways to apply:

  1. Call Alaska Call Center at 1-866-342-1699 (Monday-Friday 9am-5:30pm, Saturday 10am-3pm). Yup'ik interpreters available Thursdays 1pm-5pm.
  2. Register online at DisasterAssistance.gov
  3. Use the FEMA App on your phone
  4. Visit Bethel Assistance Hub at AVCP Tugkar Building, 570 3rd Ave., Bethel. Open Monday-Friday 10am-noon and 1pm-4pm. Yup'ik interpreters available.

State Individual Assistance

Alaska also has its own program. Visit ready.alaska.gov/IA or call 1-844-445-7131.

Small Business Loans for Homeowners

The Small Business Administration (SBA) offers low-interest disaster loans. Homeowners can use these to:

  • Repair their home
  • Replace personal property

Call 1-800-659-2955 or visit sba.gov/disaster to apply.

Important deadline: February 20 is the last day to apply for SBA physical damage loans.

Where To Apply in Person

Two locations are open:

  • Bethel City Hall, 300 Chief Eddie Hoffman Hwy (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm)
  • University of Alaska, 1901 Bragaw St., Anchorage (Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm)

Public Assistance for Communities

Several areas also got approved for Public Assistance. This helps fix damaged public buildings and facilities.
