Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF)
Emergency financial assistance for Louisiana homeowners struggling with mortgage payments, property taxes, insurance, and housing expenses due to COVID-19 hardship.
About Louisiana's HAF Program
Louisiana received $216 million in federal Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) allocation to help homeowners who experienced financial hardship after January 21, 2020. The program is especially critical in Louisiana, where many homeowners face challenges from both COVID-19 economic impacts and recurring natural disasters.
Louisiana's HAF program provides direct financial assistance to eligible homeowners to help them catch up on past-due mortgage payments, property taxes, homeowners insurance (including elevated wind and flood insurance common in Louisiana), homeowners association fees, and utilities. This assistance helps Louisiana families stay in their homes and avoid foreclosure.
Administered by the Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC), the program prioritizes assistance to socially disadvantaged individuals and those earning less than 100% of Area Median Income. The program recognizes the unique challenges Louisiana homeowners face, including high insurance costs and disaster recovery needs.
