
Aspen/Pitkin County Homeowners Can Get Up to $10,000 for Essential Home Repairs
The Aspen/Pitkin County Housing Authority (APCHA) has opened its 2026 Essential Repair Grant Program. This program helps APCHA homeowners pay for repairs that keep their homes safe and livable.
What Can the Grant Pay For?
Past grants have covered:
- Window repairs
- Hot water heater replacements
- Roofing and insulation repairs
- Radon mitigation
- Other essential safety and health repairs
Who Can Apply?
You can apply if you're an APCHA homeowner in income categories 1 through 5. Categories are based on Area Median Income (AMI):
- Category 1: One person making less than $48,000 (50% AMI)
- Category 5: One person making $198,000-$230,000 (240% AMI)
How Much Can You Get?
Grants go up to $10,000 per unit. The amount you pay depends on your income category:
- Category 1: You pay 10%, grant pays 90%
- Category 2: You pay 20%, grant pays 80%
- Category 3: You pay 30%, grant pays 70%
- Category 4: You pay 40%, grant pays 60%
- Category 5: You pay 50%, grant pays 50%
For example, if you're in Category 1 and need a $10,000 repair, you pay $1,000 and the grant pays $9,000.
How Much Money Is Available?
The 2026 program has $500,000 available ($250,000 from the city and $250,000 from Pitkin County). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the money runs out.

Program History
This is the program's third year. In 2024, they approved 46 of 92 applications. In 2025, that number grew to 84 approved applications out of 99 total.
