Colorado HEAR Rebates Offer Up to $14,000 for Home Energy Upgrades Before August 1

Colorado homeowners and renters have less time than expected to apply for the state Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates program, also called HEAR. The new application deadline is August 1, 2026.

Eligible households may qualify for up to $14,000 in rebates for home energy upgrades.

Who can apply?

The program is income-qualified. In Archuleta County, the article says income limits reach about $118,000 for a two-person household and $147,000 for a four-person household. Limits may vary by county and household size.

Both homeowners and renters may be eligible, but renters should confirm any landlord or property approval requirements before starting work.

What upgrades qualify?

Covered upgrades include cold-climate heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and electrical panel upgrades.

These upgrades can lower energy bills. La Plata Electric Association estimates that a medium-sized home switching from propane to a heat pump may save about $1,000 per year, while a home switching from electric resistance heat may save about $1,400 per year.

How to apply

First, check eligibility through the Colorado Energy Office at energyoffice.colorado.gov/home-energy-rebates. Then work with an approved contractor. The contractor provides the application link and helps submit the project.

Once approved, applicants have 120 days to complete the project.
