Colorado homeowners in the HEAR program service area have until August 1 to apply for rebates worth up to $14,000 per household.

What the program offers

Colorado's Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates program can provide up to $14,000 per household for qualifying energy upgrades.

Eligible projects can include cold-climate heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, electrical panel upgrades, and related wiring work.

Some households that qualify for HEAR may also qualify for an extra $2,000 toward a heat pump through Energy Smart Colorado after starting with a home energy assessment.

Who may qualify

The program is income-based. The reported limit is up to 150% of area median income.

In La Plata County, the article reports this is roughly up to $138,000 for a two-person household and $172,000 for a four-person household.

Rules vary by upgrade. For example, a heat pump must cover more than 51% of the home's heating load.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted by August 1, 2026.

Homeowners should review the Colorado Energy Office program details, choose the upgrade they want, and get a quote from a participating HEAR contractor.

The contractor provides the application link. Applicants will need income information, such as adjusted gross income from a tax return, plus the project quote.

After approval, homeowners have 120 days to complete the project.
