Completion of Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program Survey Required by August 1 for 2021's Hurricane and Storm Victims
Governor John Bel Edwards has announced a deadline of August 1 for homeowners affected by Hurricanes Laura, Delta, Ida, and the severe storms of May 2021 to apply for assistance through the Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program. To be considered for recovery aid, homeowners must submit a survey, which can be done online at restore.la.gov or by calling 866.735.2001 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Information on mobile support locations for in-person assistance is also available on the website.
Governor Edwards encourages all affected homeowners to fill out the survey, regardless of whether they believe they qualify for aid or have completed their repairs. Homeowners who have previously submitted a survey need not do so again.
The Restore Louisiana program offers grants to homeowners for home repair, reconstruction or reimbursement for completed repairs. After survey completion, eligible homeowners will be invited to submit a full application following a property environmental review.
To qualify, homeowners must have owned and occupied the damaged home at the time of the disaster and maintain ownership until project completion. The property must have been their primary residence, located in one of the 47 disaster-declared parishes, and an eligible type such as a single-family home, owner-occupied duplex, mobile home or condo. The program has expanded its eligibility criteria by reducing the damage threshold from $5,000 to $3,000 and increasing the maximum allowable insurance proceeds from $25,000 to $50,000.
Since its launch in February 2022, over 33,500 homeowners have completed the survey, with nearly 11,000 invited to apply. More than $266.2 million in funds have been offered to over 3,310 eligible homeowners. The program, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is administered by the Louisiana Office of Community Development.
