Get a Head Start with the Michigan Homeowner Assistance Fund (MIHAF)
In the meantime, Flint residents can get a jump start on home repairs by enrolling in the Michigan Homeowner Assistance Fund (MIHAF). Got some bills piling up? MIHAF can offer a lifeline of up to $25,000 per eligible household to help cover water bills, property taxes, and other homeownership-related expenses, according to Flint's Director of Communications, Caitie O’Neill. You can apply and find more information here.
Eligibility Criteria
Before you dive into applying, there's a catch. To be eligible for the City of Flint's ARPA-funded home repair program, you need to be in good standing with the City. Translation? Make sure you're all caught up on property taxes and water bills.
In other news, the council hit the pause button on a couple of resolutions. A proposed $40,000 paint service upgrade for the newly renovated council chambers was sent back to the Finance Committee for further review. Also tabled was a $1 million proposal for the Rx Kids program.
Mark your calendars: Starting Wednesday, Sept. 6, the council will shift all committee meetings to the recently spruced-up council chambers, according to City Clerk Davina Donohue.
So, while you're waiting for the final details on the home repair program, get your financial house in order and stay tuned for further updates!
