Florida Homeowners Can Apply for $10,000 Hurricane Protection Grants

Grants for Homeowners Team
June 29, 2026

Florida homeowners can use the My Safe Florida Home Program to make their homes stronger before hurricane season. The program offers free wind inspections and grants for approved home upgrades.

How much money is available?

Homeowners may get up to $10,000 for approved hurricane protection work. Most homeowners must pay part of the cost, and the state helps with the rest. Low-income homeowners may have different matching rules.

Who may qualify?

  • You must own and live in a Florida single-family home or townhouse.
  • The home must have a homestead exemption.
  • The home cannot be a mobile home, manufactured home, rental property, second home, vacation home, cooperative, or retirement home.
  • Inspection priority may go to low-income homeowners and homeowners age 60 or older.

What work can the grant cover?

  • Stronger roof-to-deck attachments.
  • Stronger roof-to-wall connections.
  • Secondary water resistance for the roof.
  • Impact-resistant windows, doors, garage doors, and skylights.

How to apply

Start by creating an account through the My Safe Florida Home Program. The first step is a wind-mitigation inspection. Do not start construction before your grant is approved.

Deadline or window

The official program site says grants and inspections are available for the 2025-26 program year. Homeowners should apply while funding is available.
