In August 2025, Florida approved $280 million for this program. The money helps homeowners reinforce their homes against extreme winds.

How Much Money Can You Get?

You can receive up to $10,000 in grants. This money pays for home improvements that protect against hurricanes. Many homeowners also see their insurance premiums go down after making these upgrades.

Who Gets Priority?

The program works on a first-come, first-served basis. But some groups get early access:

• Homeowners over age 60 with low income (started August 4, 2025)
• Other low-income residents (started August 18, 2025)
• Moderate-income households (opened later)
• General public (late September 2025)

Low income means below 80% of your county median income.

Three Steps to Protect Your Home

Step 1: INSPECT

Get a free wind mitigation inspection. This inspection shows how hurricane-resistant your home currently is.

The inspection report gives you two benefits:

• Share it with your insurance company to get current discounts
• See what improvements will help protect your home

Even if you do not get the grant, the inspection can help you get insurance discounts.

Step 2: REINFORCE

Use the inspection report to make improvements:

Roof and Structure:

• Reinforce ceiling to slab connections
• Strengthen roof-to-wall connections
• Add secondary water resistance to roof

Opening Protection:

• Upgrade windows
• Improve exterior doors

Step 3: SAVE

After you make improvements, contact your insurance company. Tell them about your upgrades. By law, they must give you discounts for wind improvements.
