Milwaukee Harambee Homeowners Can Apply for Up to $10,000 in Repair Grants
Homeowners in Milwaukee's Harambee neighborhood can apply for help with needed home repairs through the 2026 Home Repair Grant Program.
The Harambee Neighborhood Improvement District is accepting applications for the annual program. Eligible residents may receive up to $10,000 for essential repairs.
What the Grant Can Cover
The money is for repairs that help keep a home safe, stable, or in good condition. The program gives priority to serious problems, including code issues and repairs that could harm the property if they are not fixed.
Covered repairs can include roof work, attic ventilation, gutters, siding, electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, heating repairs, and other essential fixes. The grant is not meant for remodeling projects.
Who May Qualify
The program is for homeowners in the Harambee Neighborhood Improvement District. The grant is not strictly need-based, but the district says urgent repairs and long-time older homeowners may receive extra attention.
The district also runs a Legacy Program that offers added support to older homeowners who have lived in the area for more than 30 years.
How to Apply
Homeowners should apply through the Harambee Neighborhood Improvement District. The district reviews the home, decides if the repair qualifies, and determines how much grant money is needed.
The homeowner stays in control of the repair project and works with the contractor. If more than one contractor is needed, the district must be contacted. Project changes must also be approved by the district.
Applications are open for the 2026 program while funding is available.
