Hawaiian Home Lands Homeowners Can Apply for Ho‘āmana Assistance

Hawaiʻi Community Lending’s Ho‘āmana Homeowner Assistance Program provides financial assistance to lessees who live on Hawaiian Home Lands.
How much money is available?
Hawaii News Now reported that grants can reach up to $30,000. The official program page lists help for past-due mortgage payments, utilities and home energy costs, property taxes, homeowner, hurricane and flood insurance, HOA or common-area fees, and mortgage principal reduction when applicable.
Who may qualify?
- Applicants must reside in a dwelling unit on Hawaiian Home Lands.
- Applicants must show financial hardship, such as job loss or increased household expenses.
- Applicants must document housing instability, such as late notices, shut-off warnings, or delinquent mortgage statements.
- Household income must be at or below 80% of Area Median Income as determined by HUD.
- Applicants must complete one HUD counseling session with a DHHL-approved counseling agency and avoid duplication of federal benefits.
