Jamestown Housing Repair Mini-Grant Applications Open to Homeowners
The City of Jamestown, New York has announced the opening of its Housing Repair Mini-Grant Program, providing financial help to homeowners who need to make needed repairs or address code issues on their properties. The program is funded through the American Rescue Plan and administered by the city's Department of Development.
Grant Amount and Coverage
Eligible homeowners can receive up to $2,500 per award, with the grant covering up to 90 percent of total project costs. According to Department of Development Director Crystal Surdyk, the program covers a wide range of work, including junk and debris removal along with other home repairs and improvements.
The program was originally funded with $500,000 in American Rescue Plan dollars that the city set aside in June 2022 to help Jamestown homeowners maintain their properties.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Household income cannot exceed 125 percent of the area median income. For a single-person household, that cap is roughly $96,125, with higher thresholds for larger households.
- Only new applicants are eligible. Homeowners who previously received American Rescue Plan funds through the city cannot apply again.
- Applicants must own property within the City of Jamestown.
How to Apply
Applications are accepted online through the city's website at www.jamestownny.gov, or by mail to:
Department of Development 200 E. Third Street, 4th Floor Jamestown, NY 14701
Awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis, and the program may reopen for additional rounds if funding remains available after the initial application window closes.
Why This Matters
Programs like Jamestown's Housing Repair Mini-Grant help lower- and moderate-income homeowners address deferred maintenance, code violations, and safety issues that can otherwise snowball into far more expensive problems. By covering up to 90 percent of project costs, the grant helps keep owner-occupied housing stable and in good condition across the city.
Interested homeowners should review the eligibility criteria carefully and gather required documentation before applying, as funding is limited and disbursed in the order applications are received.
