Lake Placid Residents Can Get Up to $5,000 for Home Insulation
Homeowners in the Lake Placid, New York area may be able to get help paying for insulation and other weatherization work.
The Residential Electric Insulation Program is open to Lake Placid Municipal Electric residential customers. The program can pay up to 75% of eligible installation costs each year, with a maximum rebate of $5,000.
Low-income customers may qualify for up to 100% of eligible installation costs. For those customers, the program may pay the contractor directly instead of making the homeowner pay first and wait for a rebate.
What the rebate can cover
The program can help pay for home weatherization work that lowers heating and cooling costs. Eligible projects may include:
- Attic insulation
- Exterior wall insulation
- Rim joist insulation
- Duct insulation
- Basement or crawl space insulation
- Air sealing
- Weatherstripping
- Ventilation improvements
Who can apply
You must be a residential customer of Lake Placid Municipal Electric. The program is also available to municipal electric customers in Tupper Lake and Plattsburgh.
Each eligible customer can receive one incentive payment per year. Standard applicants can get up to 75% of the project cost, capped at $5,000. Low-income applicants may qualify for full coverage of eligible costs.
How to apply
Homeowners should work with a contractor to decide which upgrades are right for the home. Before work starts, the homeowner must submit a rebate form to the Independent Energy Efficiency Program for pre-approval.
The pre-approval packet should include a copy of the electric bill and a scope of work from the contractor. After the work is done, the homeowner submits the rebate form again with the pre-approval number, proof of payment, and a copy of the Lake Placid Municipal Electric bill.
Residents can also get free help from the North Country Clean Energy Hub. Contact Bella Abbadessa at babbadessa@adirondack.org or 518-891-6200 ext. 122 for help getting started.
Deadline
The article says the program is open now. Funding and rebate availability can change, so homeowners should ask for pre-approval before starting work.
