Lexington County, South Carolina: Septic Repair Grants Open Now for Eligible Homeowners

Charlie
May 1, 2026

Lexington County is offering grant help to homeowners who need to fix a failing septic system.

What the grant can help pay for

The program can help eligible homeowners:

  • Repair a septic system
  • Replace a septic system
  • Connect the home to sewer service

The county has not posted a set dollar cap on the public program page, but it confirms that funding is available now and that grants are limited.

Who can apply?

  • You must own the septic system.
  • The property must be your primary residence.
  • The home must be inside the Congaree Creek Watershed.
  • Commercial properties, LLC-owned properties, and rental units are not eligible.

Signs your septic system may qualify

  • Wet or soggy ground near the tank or drainfield
  • Sewage smell outside
  • Bright green or spongy grass during dry weather
  • Wastewater reaching the ground surface

How to apply

First, use the county's online map to check whether your home is in the grant area. If it is, you can submit a septic repair application or email the county for help.

Deadline

There is no published hard deadline on the public grant page, but the county says money is limited and applications are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. That means waiting can hurt your chances.
