Louisiana Homeowners Can Get Up to $4,000 for Sewer System Repairs

Some Louisiana homeowners can now apply for help with failing home sewer systems. The program offers reimbursement for repairs, replacement, or pump-out costs for eligible private sewer systems.

Eligible disadvantaged homeowners may receive up to $4,000. Other eligible homeowners may receive up to $2,000. Pump-out expenses may also qualify for reimbursement.

Who can apply?

The program is for homeowners in parts of Ascension, Assumption, Lafourche, and Terrebonne parishes who are not connected to a public sewer system.

The home must be in eligible areas along Bayou Lafourche, Bayou Folse, or Bayou Terrebonne, and the homeowner must have eligible sewer system expenses.

What is covered?

The reimbursement can help pay for pumping out, repairing, or replacing a failing home sewerage system.

Participants must allow a free on-site inspection by the South Central Planning and Development Commission. If a repair is needed, the program can refer the homeowner to a licensed contractor. A final inspection is required before reimbursement is paid.

Deadline

Funds are limited. Applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the money runs out.

How to apply

Homeowners should contact the South Central Planning and Development Commission or the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program for the current application and inspection process.
