Louisiana Homeowners Can Apply for $10,000 Fortified Roof Grants Through June 19

Grants for Homeowners Editorial Team
June 4, 2026

Louisiana homeowners have a short window to apply for help with roof upgrades before hurricane season gets worse.

The Louisiana Fortify Homes Program is taking lottery registrations for grants of up to $10,000. The money helps pay for a new roof that meets the FORTIFIED Roof Standard, which is built to better handle high winds and heavy rain.

How much money is available?

Selected homeowners can receive up to $10,000. The grant is paid directly to the contractor. Homeowners must pay any costs above the grant amount, plus required evaluator fees, permits, inspections, or other costs not covered by the program.

Who can apply?

To qualify, the home generally must:

  • Be the homeowner’s primary residence.
  • Have a homestead exemption.
  • Have active homeowners insurance with wind coverage.
  • Have flood insurance if the home is in a Special Flood Hazard Area.
  • Be located in one of the eligible Louisiana coastal parishes.
  • Be in good enough condition for a FORTIFIED Evaluator to approve the project.

Newly built homes, condos, mobile homes, and non-owner-occupied rental properties are not eligible.

Application window

The lottery registration opened June 1, 2026, and closes Friday, June 19, 2026, at 5 p.m.

How to apply

Homeowners must create or log in to a Louisiana Fortify Homes Program profile and register for the lottery during the open window. Homeowners who applied before but were not selected must register again.

Applicants should be ready to upload:

  • Homestead exemption documentation.
  • Homeowners insurance declarations page showing wind coverage.
  • Flood insurance declarations page, if the home is in a flood zone.

Do not start roof work or hire a contractor for this grant before program approval. Work started before approval may not be eligible.
