Louisiana Homeowners Can Apply for Up to $10,000 for Fortified Roof Upgrades

Charlie
June 5, 2026

Louisiana homeowners have a short window to apply for roof help through the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program.

The current lottery opened at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026. Registration closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026.

This round will award 3,000 grants worth up to $10,000 each. The money helps homeowners replace a regular roof with a FORTIFIED roof, which is built to better handle hurricane winds, heavy rain, and hail.

How much money is available?

Selected homeowners can receive up to $10,000 toward the cost of a FORTIFIED roof upgrade.

The state is using a lottery. That means applying early does not give you an advantage, but you must register before the deadline.

Who may qualify?

The program is for Louisiana homeowners in eligible parishes. The home must be the owner's primary residence, and the homeowner must have a homestead exemption and an active homeowners insurance policy with wind coverage.

According to local reporting, eligible areas include many coastal and hurricane-risk parishes such as Ascension, Calcasieu, Cameron, Iberia, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Terrebonne, Vermilion, and others listed by the program.

Newly built homes, mobile homes, and condos are not eligible for this grant round.

What can the grant pay for?

The grant helps pay for a roof built to the FORTIFIED Roof standard. These roofs use stronger materials and installation methods, including better shingles, sealed roof decks, and stronger roof edges.

A fortified roof may also help some homeowners qualify for lower insurance costs, depending on the insurer and policy.

How to apply

  1. Go to the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program website.
  2. Create or log in to your profile.
  3. Submit your registration before 5 p.m. on June 19, 2026.
  4. Have proof of your homestead exemption and homeowners insurance ready.
  5. Watch for lottery selection notices after registration closes.

If you applied in an earlier round and were not selected, you still need to register again. Old lottery entries do not roll over.

Bottom line: this is a real homeowner grant with a clear dollar amount, a clear deadline, and an application window that is open now.
