Manitou Springs CO: Get Up to $500 for Wildfire Protection
Homeowners in Manitou Springs, Colorado can get up to $500 to protect their homes from wildfires. The city will match what you spend, dollar for dollar, to remove dangerous plants and trees near your house.
What is the Grant?
The Manitou Springs Fire Department offers a Wildfire Mitigation Grant Match Program. This means if you spend $500 to clear trees and bushes around your home, the city will give you $500 back. Your total cost would be just $250.
Why Does This Matter?
Removing flammable plants creates "defensible space" around your home. This gives firefighters room to protect your property during a wildfire. Even small changes can make a big difference.
What Does the Grant Cover?
- Removing pine trees and oak bushes within 30 feet of your home
- Taking out dead trees that could fall on your house
- Clearing more space if the area closest to your home is already cleared
What is NOT Covered?
- Work you already finished
- New landscaping or planting
- Regular yard maintenance
Who Can Apply?
Any homeowner in Manitou Springs who lives in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) area can apply. This is where homes are close to wild, forested land.
How to Apply
- Choose a licensed and insured tree contractor
- Call the Fire Department at 719-685-1444 to schedule a property visit
- Sign an agreement with the city
- Complete the approved work
- The contractor bills you and the city separately
Important: Don't pay the full cost upfront or you won't get reimbursed. One application per household per year. First-come, first-served while funds last.
