Maryland Homeowners Can Get Up to $18,000 for Urgent Home Repairs
If you own a home in Maryland and need serious repairs, this program may help right now. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development announced the Healthy Homes Production Grant Program. It can provide up to $18,000 per single-family home for health and safety repairs.
The program is focused on low-income households in eight counties. If your home has issues like roof leaks, mold, plumbing problems, electrical hazards, or other safety risks, this grant may cover those repairs.
Who can apply
You may qualify if your household income is at or below 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) and your home is in one of these counties:
- Allegany
- Calvert
- Charles
- Garrett
- Montgomery
- Prince George’s
- St. Mary’s
- Washington
The state says priority is given to families with children age six and under.
What repairs are covered
The program is built around urgent health and safety needs. Covered work can include:
- Roof leaks, moisture issues, mold, and water intrusion
- Plumbing and foundation water problems
- Gas leaks, carbon monoxide risks, and electrical hazards
- Structural repairs and accessibility improvements like ramps and railings
- Pest treatments and contaminant cleanup (lead, asbestos, radon)
- Window and door repairs tied to safety and weather protection
In simple terms, this is for fixing dangerous home conditions, not cosmetic upgrades.
How much money is available
The state says the effort is supported by $2 million in federal HUD funding, and more than 100 homes are expected to receive help. The cap is $18,000 per home, depending on repair scope and program rules.
How to apply
Start on the Maryland DHCD Healthy Homes grant page and review the eligibility checklist and application steps. Gather your proof of income, ownership documents, and repair details before you apply.
