Mecklenburg County, North Carolina homeowners facing the challenges of escalating living costs can find substantial support through the HOMES program. HOMES, an acronym for Helping Out Mecklenburg’s Homeowners with Economic Support, is a seasonal initiative established by the County to alleviate the financial burden of annual homeownership for its residents. Recognizing the growing need for such support, this year, the Board of County Commissioners has generously increased the program's funding, thereby extending its reach to assist a larger number of households. Additionally, the program has forged a partnership with the City of Charlotte, enhancing its capacity to serve the community effectively.

Since its inception, the HOMES Program has seen a significant influx of applications, with thousands of homeowners already benefiting from its assistance. The program offers economic assistance grants, which can amount to as much as $660, providing substantial relief to qualifying homeowners who are grappling with financial constraints.

As the application season draws to a close, with the deadline set for December 15, Mecklenburg County is intensifying its efforts to assist residents in the application process. To facilitate this, the County has organized special in-person application assistance sessions. These sessions are an excellent opportunity for homeowners to receive direct help and guidance in completing their applications accurately and efficiently. Residents are encouraged to download and save the program flyer for reference and to share it with other homeowners who might benefit from this initiative.

The in-person assistance sessions are scheduled to take place at two locations: the Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center, located at 3205 Freedom Drive Suite A in Charlotte, and the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center, situated at 430 Stitt Road in northeast Charlotte. These sessions are available on the following dates and times:

  • Monday, November 27, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, December 13, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, December 14, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, December 15, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

These sessions are a crucial part of the County's commitment to ensuring that all eligible homeowners can access the financial support they need. By attending these sessions, homeowners can get personalized assistance, ensuring that they can successfully navigate the application process and avail themselves of the financial aid offered by the HOMES program. This initiative is a testament to Mecklenburg County's dedication to supporting its residents and helping them maintain stable and affordable homeownership amidst the rising costs of living.
