The City of New Orleans is offering an Owner-Occupied Fortified Roof Program for eligible Orleans Parish homeowners who need help strengthening their homes against severe weather.

How much money is available?

The official city program page says eligible homeowners may receive up to $35,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to install a new fortified roof.

Who may qualify?

Homeowners must meet the City of New Orleans program requirements for owner-occupied assistance. The official page lists eligibility standards and says the program is designed for Orleans Parish homeowners, with priority considerations including homeowners with special needs.

How to apply

The city says the program launched May 31, 2024, and continues as long as funding remains available. Homeowners should use the contact information on the official City of New Orleans Fortified Roof Program page to start the application process.

What to know before applying

A fortified roof may also qualify a homeowner for an annual wind mitigation insurance credit, but homeowners should confirm insurance impacts with their carrier.
