Oklahoma Homeowners Can Get Up to $10,000 for Stronger Roofs
Oklahoma homeowners have another chance to apply for money to help upgrade their roofs against wind and hail damage.
The Strengthen Oklahoma Homes program is opening its third statewide application round on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. The grant can cover up to $10,000 for eligible roof upgrades.
What the Grant Pays For
The grant helps pay for roof work that brings a home up to the FORTIFIED Roof High Wind standard with the Hail Supplement. This stronger roof standard is designed to better protect homes from severe Oklahoma storms.
The money is paid directly to the contractor after the work is finished and the required paperwork is approved. If the roof work costs more than the grant amount, the homeowner must pay the difference.
Who Can Apply?
You may qualify if you meet these basic rules:
- You live in Oklahoma.
- The home is your owner-occupied primary residence.
- The home is a single-family home or eligible new construction home.
- You have a current homestead exemption on file.
- You have active homeowners insurance with wind coverage.
- You have flood insurance if the home is in a special flood hazard area.
- The home is in good repair and can qualify for the FORTIFIED roof standard.
Apartments, duplexes, condos, manufactured homes, and mobile homes are not eligible.
How to Apply
Applications open at noon on July 13, 2026. Homeowners can apply through the state program page at oid.ok.gov/okready.
The program is first-come, first-served, and funding is limited. The Oklahoma Insurance Department recommends checking your homestead exemption and reviewing the eligibility rules before the application window opens.
What to Know Before You Start
You must receive a grant award letter before roof work begins. If you start the work before being accepted into the program, you will not be eligible for the grant.
Homeowners also have to pay the FORTIFIED evaluator fee. The grant does not cover that cost. The evaluator checks whether the home can qualify and documents the work for final approval.
Why This Matters
A stronger roof can reduce storm damage and may help homeowners qualify for insurance premium discounts. For families facing high repair and insurance costs, this grant can make a safer roof much more affordable.
