Oregon Homeowners Rejoice: Solar and Battery Storage Rebates are Here!
Central Oregon homeowners have a golden opportunity to embrace renewable energy solutions, thanks to substantial rebates offered through a collaboration involving Pacific Power, Central Electric Cooperative, and Mid-State Electric Cooperative. Homeowners can avail themselves of rebates reaching up to $5,000 for solar installations, with an added bonus of $2,500 if paired with energy storage systems.
Moreover, organizations dedicated to aiding low-income residents, including nonprofits and municipalities, can receive up to $30,000 for solar installations, plus an extra $15,000 if coupled with energy storage solutions. Sunlight Solar Energy, a contractor approved by the Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE), is one of the organizations facilitating these rebates, ensuring customers enjoy full savings.
To further foster inclusivity and break away from the notion that solar solutions are a luxury reserved for the affluent, at least a quarter of the annual rebate fund is earmarked for moderate and low-income households and service providers catering to low-income demographics.
Paul Israel, Sunlight Solar Energy's President and founder, shares his enthusiasm for the revamped incentives, which he believes shatters the perceived economic barrier to adopting solar energy solutions. Expressing gratitude for the broadened access, Israel emphasized the timely relief it brings to many amidst the escalating cost of living in Central Oregon.
Initiated in January 2020, the incentive program continually expands, with an additional $10 million injected to spur more solar and storage projects. The initiative already boasts a robust track record, facilitating over 4,600 projects through more than $14 million in rebates. These ventures, which utilized a cumulative $166 million in total project expenses, are set to enhance the region's annual solar production by a significant 60,000 kilowatts.
Scott Nordquist of Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity highlights the instrumental role the rebate program plays in their mission to construct affordable, renewable energy-powered homes. The organization, having aided over 220 families in securing affordable homes, is on a steady path to increase the number of solar-equipped houses, courtesy of the substantial cost reduction effected by the rebates.
As Central Oregon forges ahead in its renewable energy journey, the collaborative rebate program stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collective efforts, inclusive planning, and a shared vision for a greener future. It is a bold step towards environmental sustainability, offering a win-win scenario for residents and the planet alike.
