Otter Tail County Septic Grants Are Available in 2026
Otter Tail County, Minnesota homeowners may qualify for grant help to replace a failing septic system. The county's SSTS Local Cost Share Fix-Up Fund Program can cover up to 50% of eligible replacement costs, up to a maximum grant of $5,000.
What the Grant Covers
The grant helps replace eligible subsurface sewage treatment systems, also called septic systems. The system must be non-compliant, and the county must have issued an order to replace it.
Who May Qualify
- The property must be entirely in Otter Tail County
- The home must be a homesteaded single-family home or duplex
- Property taxes and mortgage payments must be current
- The property cannot be in active or imminent foreclosure
- The project must be new, not already completed or underway
- Household income limits apply
For 2026, the income limit is $80,100 for a 1 to 4 person household and $105,750 for a 5 to 8 person household, based on gross annual income.
How to Apply
Homeowners must complete the county's SSTS Financial Assistance Application. They must also collect at least two itemized bids from licensed contractors.
The application asks for photo IDs for all owners, recent mortgage statements, recent tax returns, and a copy of the non-compliant inspection.
Deadline or Window
Applications are accepted January 1 through December 31 each year. Grants are first come, first served until funds run out.
