Prairie Village Kansas: $3,500 Grants for Home Improvements

Prairie Village homeowners can now get up to $3,500 for home improvements. The city increased funding for all three grant programs in 2026.

Three Grant Programs Available

Prairie Village offers three different programs:

  1. Exterior Grant Program
  2. Residential Sustainability Grant
  3. Property Tax Rebate Program

Exterior Grant Program: $87,000 Available

The exterior grant program has $87,000 to give away. This includes $23,000 rolled over from unused 2025 funds.

What Changed for 2026?

  • Maximum home value increased to $450,000 (up $25,000)
  • Maximum rebate per resident is now $3,500 (was $2,500)

What Projects Qualify?

  • Exterior house painting or new siding
  • Door and window repair or replacement
  • New roofs, gutters, or shutters
  • Foundation repairs
  • Concrete work like driveways, sidewalks, or stoops

Applications opened January 15, 2026.

Residential Sustainability Grant: $54,000 Available

The city set aside $54,000 for energy efficiency upgrades. This includes about $14,000 rolled over from 2025.

Maximum Rebate Increased

Like the exterior program, the maximum sustainability grant is now $3,500 per resident (up from $2,500).

What Projects Qualify?

Projects must improve your home energy efficiency:

  • Home energy audit
  • Solar power or wind power additions
  • Energy efficient HVAC systems
  • Energy efficient water heaters
  • Energy efficient windows or doors
  • Insulation projects
  • Geothermal heating and cooling
  • Duct sealing

Applications opened January 15, 2026.

Property Tax Rebate Program: $100,000 Available

The city council voted 7-4 to allocate $100,000 for property tax rebates.

How It Works

The program returns the city portion of your property tax bill if you qualify. The program started in 2022. Most participants are older adults on fixed incomes.

Who Qualifies?

You must meet two requirements:

  1. Income at or below 65% of Kansas City area median family income
  2. Property value at or below $567,661 (increased for 2026)

City staff wanted to increase the income threshold to 75%, but the council kept it at 65%.

Council Concerns

Some council members worry the program does not help younger families or newer homeowners. They want to find ways to support these groups too.

Applications opened Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
