South Carolina Safe Home Grants: Coastal Homeowners Can Get Up to $7,500

Good news for homeowners: this program can help pay for major home fixes.

How much money you can get

$3,000 to $7,500, depending on project and income

What the grant covers

Roof strengthening, secondary water barriers, wind-rated roof coverings, and opening protection like shutters and impact-rated doors/windows.

Who can apply

  • You must live in an eligible South Carolina coastal county.
  • Home must be a single-family primary residence you own and occupy.
  • You must have active homeowners insurance and cannot have used a Safe Home grant before.

How to apply

Apply through the South Carolina Department of Insurance Safe Home portal and use the award calculator to estimate your grant amount.

Application windows open at set times during the year (currently accepting applications per April 2026 notice)
