St. Augustine Florida Homeowners Can Get $25,000 for Home Repairs
If you own a home in the West City area of St. Augustine, Florida, you can now apply for money to fix your house.
The city started a new program called Revive & Restore Residential Repair Grant Program. It gives grants of up to $25,000 to help homeowners make important repairs.
What Is This Program?
The Revive & Restore program helps people in the West City neighborhood fix their homes. This area has not received as much money for improvements as other parts of St. Augustine.
The city wants to help homeowners stay in their homes and make needed repairs. This program is based on another successful program in the Lincolnville neighborhood.
What Repairs Does It Cover?
You can use grant money to fix:
- Plumbing problems
- Old or damaged roofs
- Storm damage
- Other health and safety issues
The city will inspect your home to see what repairs are needed. They will help you plan the work and choose materials.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for this grant, you must:
- Own a home in the West City Community Redevelopment Area
- Live in the home as your main residence
- Meet income requirements (under $57,400 for a single person; higher limits for larger families)
The program is designed for low-income homeowners who face financial challenges.
How Much Money Can You Get?
You can receive up to $25,000 to pay for repairs. This is free money - you do not have to pay it back.
However, there are some rules:
- If you get less than $10,000, there is no lien on your home
- If you get $10,000 to $25,000, the city will place a 10-year lien on your property
- If you sell your home during those 10 years, you may need to pay back some of the money
How Does It Work?
Here is what happens after you apply:
- City staff reviews your application
- If approved, staff inspects your home
- They create a plan for repairs and approve materials
- A qualified contractor chosen by the city does the work
- City staff inspects the finished work
You do not have to hire your own contractor. The city selects a qualified professional for you.
How to Apply
Applications are now open. You can apply by:
- Downloading the application from citystaugcra.com
- Calling the CRA office at 904-209-4201
Because funding is limited, there may be a waiting list. Apply as soon as possible if you need help.
Why This Matters
St. Augustine Director of Community Services, Jaime Perkins, said the program is about investing in the neighborhood and strengthening community infrastructure.
The goal is to help long-term residents stay in their homes even as the area changes and property taxes go up.
If you live in West City and need home repairs, this grant can help you stay in your home and keep it safe.
