The Mississippi Insurance Department is preparing to launch the Strengthen Mississippi Homes Program, a roof-mitigation grant program for eligible homeowners.

The initial rollout is expected to focus on Gulf Coast homeowners insured through the Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association, often called the wind pool. Local coverage and the official program page point homeowners to the Mississippi Insurance Department for updates and application instructions.

How much money is available?

Eligible homeowners may be able to receive up to $10,000 toward upgrades that bring a roof to the FORTIFIED Roof™ standard.

Who may qualify?

  • The first phase is expected to focus on owner-occupied single-family homes in the coastal wind pool.
  • Homeowners should expect to document ownership, occupancy, insurance coverage, and contractor/project details once applications open.

When does it launch?

The program was authorized during the 2026 legislative session and is expected to begin implementation after July 1, 2026. Homeowners should wait for official Mississippi Insurance Department application instructions before signing contracts or beginning grant-funded work.
