Urbana Illinois Home Repair Grants: Up to $15,000 Available

Homeowners in Urbana, Illinois can now get money for emergency home repairs. The city offers grants up to $15,000 for critical fixes.

How Much Money Is Available?

Urbana offers four types of repair grants:

  • Emergency repairs: up to $10,000
  • Emergency roof repairs: up to $15,000
  • Emergency sewer repairs: up to $15,000
  • Accessibility improvements: up to $10,000

Who Can Apply?

You must be a low-income homeowner. Your household income must be within 80% of the median family income. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development sets these income limits.

What Are Emergency Repairs?

Emergency repairs fix immediate health or safety risks. Examples include:

  • Leaking roof that lets rain inside
  • Broken sewer line
  • Dangerous electrical problems
  • Heating system failure in winter
  • Water damage that causes mold

The repair must address a condition that threatens your health or safety right now.

What Are Accessibility Grants?

Accessibility grants help people with disabilities. They remove physical barriers in your home. Examples include:

  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Wider doorways
  • Grab bars in bathrooms
  • Lower countertops
  • Accessible showers

Where Does The Money Come From?

These grants use federal funding. The money is available while funds last. When the money runs out, the program stops accepting applications until more funding becomes available.

What Happens After You Apply?

The city reviews your application. They check if you meet the income requirements. They also verify your repairs qualify as emergency or accessibility needs.

If approved, the city arranges the repairs. You do not receive a check. The city pays contractors directly.

Why This Program Matters

Many homeowners cannot afford emergency repairs. A broken furnace in January. A leaking roof during heavy rains. A failed sewer line. These problems cost thousands of dollars.

Without help, families live in unsafe conditions. This program keeps Urbana homeowners safe and healthy.
