Urbana Illinois Homeowners: Get Up to $15,000 for Emergency Home Repairs
The city of Urbana, Illinois is now accepting applications for grants that help low-income homeowners pay for emergency repairs and accessibility upgrades. If you need urgent fixes to keep your home safe, this program could help.
How Much Money Can You Get?
The city offers four different grant programs:
- Emergency Repair Grants: Up to $10,000 per home
- Emergency Roof Repair: Up to $15,000 per home
- Emergency Sewer Repair: Up to $15,000 per home
- Accessibility Grants: Up to $10,000 per home
Who Qualifies?
To be eligible, your household income must be within 80% of the median family income for your area. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development sets these income limits.
Emergency repairs must fix a problem that poses an immediate health or safety risk. For example:
- A leaking roof that's causing water damage
- A broken furnace in the middle of winter
- Dangerous electrical problems
- Sewer backups or broken pipes
Accessibility grants help remove physical barriers for people with disabilities, such as installing ramps or widening doorways.

There are three ways to apply:
- Online: Apply on the city of Urbana website
- In person: Visit the Community Development Services office at Urbana City Hall (9th floor)

Important Details
These grants are federally funded and available while funds last. That means you should apply as soon as possible if you need repairs.
