Waterbury extended its ADU grant deadline

Waterbury, Vermont, has extended applications to April 30, 2026 for its Housing Improvement Program.

The program gives grants of up to $30,000 to homeowners who build an accessory dwelling unit (ADU).

How much money is available?

  • Up to $30,000 per approved ADU project
  • Grant money is paid during construction milestones over an 18-month window

Who can qualify?

  • You must be a Waterbury homeowner
  • You must build an ADU on your property (attached or detached)
  • The ADU must be rented as a long-term unit
  • Rent must be at or below 110% of county fair market rent (about $1,234/month in Waterbury)

How to apply

Apply through the Waterbury Housing Improvement Program page on the town website. The town partnered with Downstreet Housing & Community Development to manage the program.

The current round can fund about three projects, so applying early is important.
