Wilmington, DE — Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki, along with Director of Real Estate and Housing Robert Weir, recently hosted a Networking and Information Session aimed at advancing affordable homeownership opportunities for eligible city residents. The event, held at the Louis L. Redding City/County Building, saw an impressive turnout of more than 80 attendees, including real estate professionals, developers, mortgage brokers, and community stakeholders.

The central focus of this gathering was to unveil an updated inventory of available properties on Wilmington's East Side and to encourage realtors to list these properties. Mayor Purzycki also used the platform to urge loan officers to underwrite mortgages for potential eligible homeowners.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the developments on the East Side, Mayor Purzycki stated, "There are wonderful things happening across the East Side of Wilmington today, and we are excited to share that story." He emphasized the city's commitment to increasing homeownership opportunities, with the overarching goal of improving the overall quality of life for the community.

This Networking and Information Session is a vital component of the ongoing East Side Rehabilitation and Stabilization Initiative, which is heralded as the most ambitious housing and neighborhood plan in the city's history. Mayor Purzycki first announced this initiative in January 2022, setting the stage for transformative changes in the East Side neighborhood.

The event attracted a diverse array of participants, including representatives from M&T Bank, the Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA), local realtor Sharon Stewart, renowned Jamaican-born folk artist Eunice LaFate, and Mary Ann Cronin, CRA Mortgage Loan Officer at WSFS Bank.

Director Weir emphasized the importance of community involvement in this initiative, stating, "This event was part of a series that involves the community and stakeholders. The City is committed to including the people that are currently living and working in our neighborhoods and those who wish to move here as we move forward."

As the city continues to drive efforts to promote affordable homeownership, initiatives like these play a pivotal role in bringing together various stakeholders to achieve the shared goal of enhancing housing opportunities and revitalizing communities in Wilmington's East Side.
