Wyoming HAF Opens Applications for Forward Mortgage Payment Assistance
The Wyoming Department of Family Services announced on February 27, 2023, that the Wyoming Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) Program had opened applications to help eligible homeowners with up to three consecutive months of forward mortgage payments. The expansion builds on the HAF Program that originally launched in May 2022 to address delinquent mortgages and related housing costs tied to COVID-19 financial hardship.
Under the expanded program, qualifying Wyoming homeowners can receive up to $17,000 as a one-time award. Funds can be applied to past-due payments and, once delinquencies are resolved, up to three months of forward mortgage payments. Delinquencies are prioritized ahead of forward payments.
"Adding forward mortgage payments to the HAF Program gives Wyoming homeowners temporary relief to get caught up with the rest of their bills," said Department of Family Services Director Korin Schmidt.
To qualify, applicants must be first-time HAF recipients, own and occupy a primary residence in Wyoming (including the Wind River Reservation), have a household income at or below 150% of area median income, have a first-lien mortgage, and have experienced a COVID-related financial hardship on or after January 21, 2020. Applicants must not intend to sell the home within six months.
Wyoming received $50 million in federal HAF funding through the U.S. Department of the Treasury under the American Rescue Plan Act. As of February 23, 2023, approximately $8 million had been distributed to 976 homeowners — about 16% of Wyoming's total allocation.
Homeowners can apply online at dfs.wyo.gov/haf or call the toll-free application assistance line at 1-888-WYO-HAFP (1-888-996-4237) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
