EBSCO first introduced the EBSCO Solar grant program in 2016 to showcase its commitment to solar energy. Since the program’s inception, EBSCO has awarded $1,850,000 in grants, and 2023 will mark the year the total amount awarded exceeds $2,000,000. This demonstrates EBSCO’s dedication to sustainable energy and the importance of libraries in the communities they serve.

The 2022 recipients of the EBSCO Solar Grant included John D. MacArthur Campus Library at Florida Atlantic University, Shirley M. Wright Memorial Library in Wisconsin, Lincoln Library in Vermont, and Alan Batey Library and Learning Commons at Camosun College in British Columbia, Canada. These libraries have used the grant to install solar panels on their rooftops, providing renewable energy and reducing their carbon footprint.

EBSCO Information Services President Tim Collins believes that adopting alternative energy sources such as solar arrays has been a benefit for EBSCO and wants to help libraries experience the same benefits. Collins explains that “Libraries are often the center of a campus or community, and by implementing solar, libraries can reduce energy costs while educating students and patrons on the many benefits of solar.” With the help of EBSCO Solar Grants, libraries can invest in renewable energy and create educational opportunities for their communities.

The deadline for submissions for the 2023 EBSCO Solar Grant program is April 21, 2023, and winners will be announced in June 2023.
