Grant Aid to Support Home Repairs for South Beloit Residents
South Beloit, a city nestled in Illinois, has recently been the recipient of a generous $300,000 grant. This grant has been provided by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) and aims to support the Home Repair and Accessibility Program, which is intended to benefit low-income homeowners in need of essential home repairs.
The mayor of South Beloit, Tom Fitzgerald, explained the significance of this grant. “The Home Repair and Accessibility Program will provide individual homeowners with up to $45,000 in forgivable assistance to make crucial repairs and improvements for accessibility,” he said. Fitzgerald emphasized the importance of maintaining the health and safety of South Beloit residents and expressed his gratitude to the IHDA for providing the grant that would assist the citizens in achieving this.
The Home Repair and Accessibility Program serves as a source of funding for municipalities and community-based organizations. These entities then administer the loans, overseeing the distribution of funds to homeowners in need. Repairs that are covered under the program encompass a wide range, including roofing, flooring, electrical work, plumbing, siding, and other tasks that contribute to the removal of health and safety hazards within a property.
To be eligible for the program, homeowners must have an income that is at or below 80% of the median income for the area. This year, a special provision has been added to the program: a roof-only option is now available for eligible applicants.
Kristin Faust, the Executive Director of IHDA, highlighted the crucial need for safe, stable housing, especially for low-income and aging populations. “Illinois homeowners who have been putting off these vital and necessary repairs due to lack of funds should take action and apply for assistance through HRAP today,” she encouraged.
From May 15 to 31, pre-applications for the loans are available at City Hall, located at 519 Blackhawk Blvd. The office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for Memorial Day on May 29, when the office will be closed. For further inquiries, residents can reach out to Tammy Scott from McMahon Associates at 815-636-9590 or email her at [email protected]. This funding provides a valuable opportunity for South Beloit residents to improve their homes and overall quality of life.
