STEM Project Grants are Now Available for Arizona Teachers

What do solar-powered race cars, weather balloon launches, and raised bed organic gardening have in common? They are all projects that brought STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and math) to life in Arizona classrooms thanks to grant funding from Arizona Public Service Company (APS) and the Phoenix Suns. Now, Arizona K-12 teachers in public and charter schools within APS service territory can apply for up to $2,500 for STEM projects they dream up for their students.
“Studies show the best way to get students interested in STEM is through hands-on projects that involve interactive problem solving,” says APS Director of Community Affairs, Tina Marie Tentori. “We want to help light the spark that leads to a continued pursuit of education in the STEM fields and may inspire students to pursue careers in healthcare, technology, energy, or jobs that don’t even exist yet!”
APS and the Phoenix Suns have contributed more than $650,000 since the program began in 2005 to enhance STEM education in Arizona schools. Each year, the STEM Teacher Grants program provides grants of up to $2,500 per teacher with a total of up to $50,000 available during the 2021-22 school year.
Arizona K-12 teachers in public and charter schools within APS service territory are invited to get creative, develop innovative hands-on STEM project ideas and apply by October 1, 2021. Applicants will be notified of grant awards in November, and funds will be awarded in December for projects to be implemented January through May 2022.
